Hello! Welcome to the Sparks II Apartments BYU student housing blog.

Did you know that BYU not only has students from all 50 states, but that 6% are international students?1 New students who may not be familiar with the Provo, Utah climate need to know that there are four distinct seasons here and they should pack accordingly.

Autumn is beautiful in Provo as temperatures ease to a comfortable level and the leaves change, giving the surrounding mountains their spectacular fall colors. Winters are snowy and cold, and you’ll find the thermometer dropping below freezing, so sweaters and coats are a necessity (and don’t forget to experience the ‘Greatest Snow on Earth’ during the winter months).

May is the rainiest month during the Provo Spring, but quickly dries out in June. The majority of Summer days in Provo register over 97 degrees, which makes it a great time for BYU students to explore the nearby canyons with their cooler temps.

The air in Provo is dry, so BYU students coming from humid climates may find that they need to use lotion more frequently. The dry air also cools quickly after sundown, so warm Provo days can turn into chilly nights.

I’m Connie Meyers, and as the manager at Sparks II Apartments I want all BYU students to enjoy their college experience.

Sparks II Apartments offers BYU-approved, off-campus housing at an affordable price. We are within walking distance to BYU campus (provided you’re dressed appropriately for the season!) and we have apartments from 2 to 3 bedrooms.

Whether you are a local or international student looking to move to off-campus Provo housing next semester, I hope you will consider Sparks II Apartments. If you have any questions, call me at 801-371-6500 or visit us on the web at http://sparksapts.com/ where you can take a virtual tour and even complete an online housing application.

Life as a BYU student can be stressful. Living away from home for the first time, essays, midterms, labs, dating; all of this can add up to a lot of stress and anxiety for Provo students. So today in the Provo student apartments blog we want to provide you with a few tips to keep your stress levels low.

When it comes to managing stress for Provo students, don’t neglect the basics. Keep your body healthy by eating a balanced diet and exercising. And just because you’re in college doesn’t mean you can’t get a decent night’s sleep. When you make regular bedtime a priority, your stress will be easier to handle.

Practice good time management and organization. Any student with a full class load at BYU will need to figure out the best way to keep track of all those due dates and deadlines.

When it comes to your social life, try finding a time when you can be around friends without talking about school and its stresses. You might have to set some ground rules, but a few hours a week with light-hearted conversation can go a long way to recharge your batteries.

And while friends are great, alone time is important too. Find a quiet place, indoors or in the beautiful Provo outdoors, where you can clear your mind and calm your thoughts.

I’m Connie Meyers, the manager at Sparks II Apartments apartments where we provide BYU students with cost effective off-campus housing in Provo that’s BYU approved. We are located at 999 East 450 North in Provo.

If you would like more information about Sparks II Apartments, give me a call at 801-371-6500 or visit us on the web at http://sparksapts.com/ where you can view photos and submit an application.

We are located at 999 East 450 North, well within walking distance of the Provo River Parkway. The parkway is a beautiful multi-use, paved trail that winds its way through state and Provo parks, beautiful Utah County residential areas as well as shopping and business districts throughout Provo. The trail runs from Utah Lake State Park all the way up Provo canyon to Bridal Veil Falls, where BYU student walkers and hikers can cool their feet in a pool at the base of the falls.

If you are looking for a Provo area hike that is a little more rustic than the paved Parkway, but still not strenuous, check out the trail to Stewart Falls. The path begins at BYU’s Aspen Grove Camp and winds through beautiful Utah aspens, oak brush, ferns, as well as Wasatch mountain meadows that are dotted with colorful wildflowers part of the year.

BYU hikers who want a steeper hike can try the switchback trail up to “The Y”. The trailhead can be found at the end of Terrace Drive, just east of Kiwanis Park and near the north east end of BYU campus. The view of Provo and Utah Valley that you enjoy from Y Mountain is more than worth the effort of the hike.

Just north of Y Mountain in Provo is Rock Canyon, a destination for BYU student rock climbers and mountain bikers from all over the world. Additionally, it offers a six-mile hiking trail that goes from the trailhead at the end of North Temple Drive to the Rock Canyon Campground on Squaw Peak Road.

My name is Connie Meyers and as the manager here at Sparks II Apartments, I know how important it is for college students to stay active. So if you are looking for off-campus BYU approved housing next semester, I hope that you will give me a call at 801-371-6500. Along with a great location within walking distance to BYU, and very close to all of the trails and paths mentioned, we offer faboulous amenities like approved BYU single student housing.

Sparks II Apartments BYU student residents can clearly see Provo’s most famous landmark, Y Mountain, from their Provo off-campus housing, but many might be surprised to learn of the Y’s interesting origins.

In 1903, BYU actually became two Provo institutions, Brigham Young University and Brigham Young High School. The High School developed strong rivalries between classes. In 1906, the junior class attempted to paint a large ‘07 on the side of the mountain.

Early one Saturday morning, the BY High juniors lugged sacks of white lime to a barren spot on the mountain and began their work. The seniors discovered their plans and headed to the Provo mountain side to drive the juniors away.

The BY High class of “07 held out as long as they could, but soon they had to leave the mountainside with the job undone. Some of the juniors paid dearly for trying to eclipse the senior class; a few were hunted down and had their heads shaved against their will!

BYU school leaders met to decide how to restore peace to their school without totally losing the bonding that rivalries can create. In April 1906, President Brimhall ordered surveys for the letters B, Y, and U to be placed on the mountainside. The Y was to be laid out first so the letters would be centered.

Later in the year, BYU students gathered on the mountain to fill in the outlined Y. They created a brigade with each Provo student eight feet apart, passing bags of lime, sand, or rocks from one person to another. The job was much larger than expected, but nobody would quit for fear of breaking the line. In the late afternoon some of the students fainted from exhaustion and lack of food, but all were rewarded when they returned to campus to see the Y on the side of the mountain.

For years other loyal BYU students would spend a day each year carrying more lime up the mountain to give the Y a fresh coat. The Y became a block letter in 1911 and the serifs were added, giving it it’s present-day appearance. More changes came in following years, including whitewashing, the addition of stones and cement, as well as electric lights.

If you are looking for BYU approved housing with a view of this unique landmark, please consider Sparks II Apartments. We are located at 999 East 450 North in Provo, just a short walk from BYU campus. We offer lots of extras to singles and students who want a great BYU off-campus housing experience.

Visit Sparks II Apartments at http://sparksapts.com/ where you can take a virtual tour of our Provo student apartment units.

Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Baked Potato Bar
Taco Salad with Canned Chili and Corn Chips
Breakfast for Dinner
Hawaiian Haystacks (riced topped with cream of chicken soup, canned pineapple, green onions, etc.)
Ramen With Egg (we couldn’t forget ramen)

Sparks II Apartments wants all of our BYU students to have a great experience living in Provo BYU apartments. We are within walking distance to BYU and are close to Albertson’s for your grocery needs. Don’t worry, there is Hogi Yogi for when you really can’t bring yourself to cook anything.

We have comfortable, well-appointed apartments from 2 to 3 bedrooms. We also offer several extras, all at an affordable rate.
